StoryCorps (pronounced “story core”) is an independent non-profit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. It is a project of Sound Portraits Productions in partnership with the Library of Congress, NPR, and public radio stations nationwide. The StoryCorps mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. This is accomplished by recording high-quality interviews between friends or family, in which one person interviews the other.
This is the courtyard area at the Gables of Guilford. The “Gables” is an independent Senior Living Retirement Home in Guilford, Connecticut where Linda (my wife) and I had the fortune of holding a recent as- signment as Facility/Community Managers.

There are occasions when children have cause to worry about their parents’ sanity. My occasion came shortly after the New Year, when my mother’s behavior began to change, subtly at first, and then more and more dramatically. She began muttering about her New Year’s resolution and seeing a certain number of things. However, I didn’t understand what these things were until I saw her, clutching binoculars and a book filled with glossy pictures, climb into the dented white mini-van and hurtle off into the horizon. She was in birding.
During the course of a career in the ministry, many interest- ing and unforgettable stories are experienced. Peter and his fam- ily would never have imagined that one of their most memorable stories would center on their dog, Rufus. It was a very hectic time for Peter’s family as they planned to move to a new city. The prepara- tions seemed endless. The house was filled with boxes from one end to the other; everything was labeled to make it easy to find a household item quickly.
